The Audacity of Satan

Matthew 4:8-11, "Again, the devil took him (Jesus) to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 'All this will I give you,' he said, 'if you wil bow down and worship me.'"

"Jesus said to him, 'Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.' Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him."

The audacity of Satan! The first two temptations were on one level; "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread," and "If you are the Son of God...throw yourself down. For it is written: 'He will command his angels concerning you and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" It reminds me of how Satan also dealt with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, "Did God really say...?"

The first two temptations were audacious enough that he should try to coerce the Son of God to display his authority and power. However the third temptation blows my mind and should really make us think of the boldness of the enemy. He actually dared, DARED to suggest that the Son of God - God incarnate, the one who CREATED the world, would envy Satan's "kingdom" and "splendor" and suggest that God bow down and worship him!!!

Take heed of the crafty, cunning enemy we fight. If he tried to tempt the Son of God, who are we? The great news is that, he's already defeated. Praise the Lord! Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. We know how the war ends. Hallelujah! But it doesn't exempt us from the skirmishes of the battles inbetween. Sharpen your sword - study the Word. Be alert, be prayerful, the time is at hand. Don't be caught sleeping. Our enemy is not asleep. He's slick and slippery like a serpent though. Always looking to strike. Think it not strange the tests and trials that you may go through. Rejoice to be counted worthy, to be counted a threat to the kingdom of darkness and to partake in the sufferings of Christ.

We have an audacious enemy. But take comfort in knowing, he's already defeated. Take comfort in knowing that our King, our High Priest, our Lord has already triumphed over the devil and given us authority in his name to destroy the works of darkness. The devil knows his time is short and is elevating his game. We must elevate ours as well.

Be bold. Remember who you are and whose you are. Know the Word and brandish it. Remain prayerful and walk in righteousness so that you may walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. Remember...we win!

Peace and Blessings!

  2. Beverly, I don't think I can express how timely this message was for me today. I'm in a season of attack, because I am stepping out for the Lord in a new way. Just last week, I had my first speaking engagement - to a group of young mothers. I speak again next week, and again in May. It's a new avenue that the Lord is opening up for me.

But oh, put a target on my back!

I couldn't agree more - I do think that the world is winding down, and therefore the enemy is fighting more ugly and more furious. He's elevating his game...

But I love your encouragement to do the same. And I love how you said to remember who I belong to - YES!! I BELONG TO THE KING - and all the powers of hell will not be able to prevail against me...

    Holding on.

    GOD BLESS!

  3. Praise the Lord, Sharon! Yes, you have a bullseye on your back when you're being used by the Lord. You're in good company. Recognize it, embrace it and fight back with praise, prayer and continuing to press forward. You're making the Lord proud.

    Your Sister.

  4. Hi fellow members of the body of Christ -

I chime in here to say a hearty Amen to this post. Thank you, Beverly, for walking in the light of our Lord, and for being a child of the day.

I love what Wanda expressed, and I feel Sharon relative to the "target" statement. Satan aims to devour us but Glory to GOD, Hallelujah - no weapon formed against us shall prosper. The devil shall NOT prevail against the righteous because we walk with the Most High - Almighty GOD!

Our Father is our fortress, our shield, buckler, deliverer, healer, and a very present help...

GOD is invincible, indestructible, fearless and He bows to NOTHING AND NO ONE. All shall bow to Him - sooner, later or when it is too late. But we shall ALL bow to the GOD of gods. My choice is to bow now, later, and for all of eternity.
You are with me dear fellow warriors and I am glad that we are on GOD'S valiant team. Hail to the King of glory.

  5. Beverly -

It really takes a bold enemy to suggest that, in your words, "the Son of God - God incarnate, the one who CREATED the world, would envy Satan's 'kingdom' and 'splendor' and suggest that God bow down and worship him!"

Like Satan has anything to offer Jesus? But like the point you're making, it means we should take Satan seriously. We should never underestimate his influence.

Even though Christians have the full power of the Holy Spirit to help us through this life and of course the full armor of God, how often are we tricked by the enemies craftiness and we end up sinning? Gossip, pride, selfishness, etc. The enemy will use them all in such a way that if we're not paying attention, they will trip us up.

1 Corinthians 16:13: "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong."

    Great post! God bless!
